Cyprus offers up some fascinating history and this day trip is great for taking it all in. The morning kicks off with a trip to Kourion–one of the most impressive archaeological sites on the island. It’s classic Greco-Roman, with a half-moon of seats facing out to sea. The House of Eustolios is the other must-see, thanks to its 5th-century mosaics and Roman baths.

Next stop is Petra tou Romiou, an off-shore rock where–according to mythology –the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, rose from the waves. After a quick photo, you’ll head to the UNESCO-rated Tombs of the Kings, and the noon to Paphos. The modern harbour is brimming with bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy a spot of lunch.

In the afternoon, it’s on to the Roman mosaics at the Villa of Dionysos.

Cyprus is an island of contrasts with rolling hills housing pretty villages and history infusing their streets and squares.

Our first stop will be at the Birthplace of Aphrodite. According to legend, it was here, next to the rock of Petra tou Romiou, where the Goddess was born from the foam of the sea.

You’ll dive straight into ancient history at one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus, Kourion. Visit the Roman baths and amble into the site’s centrepiece, the Greco-Roman half-moon theatre where concerts are still held to this day. Then, we’ll head to the mountain-fringed village of Omodos, at the epicentre of the island’s winegrowing district, where you’ll have some free time to wander around skinny cobbled streets lined with Byzantine buildings.

The village is built around the rather majestic Monastery of the Holy Cross; a building which stands as the true pride and joy of Omodos and one of the oldest and most historic monasteries on the island.

Next, you’ll make the short trip down the road to the nearby village of Koilani. Here, you’ll be given a tour of the winery and cellar, where you’ll learn all about the production of one of the island’s most famous wines.

Then, it’s the best part – three wines will be uncorked for you to sample, and while you savour every slurp of this local delight, allow your eyes to rest over the unique landscape and stunning mountain tops.
